Do 2 or 3 of the following as time permits. The teacher does not have to do everything listed – just choose according to the time permitted.
A. Retell the Story so the students can memorize it.
If possible, tell the story again so the students can memorize it.
B. Craft
Instructions: The "Heart of Gold" Foldable
1. Fold the paper: Take your large piece of construction paper. Fold it in half like a book so the edges touch. Press the fold flat.
2. Write the verse: At the very top of the open paper, write: "Thou shalt have no other gods before me. - Exodus 20:3". Use different colors to make it bright!
3. Draw the calf: On the left side of the paper, draw a small yellow cow (the calf). This represents the mistake the Israelites made.
4. Mark the mistake: Draw a big red "X" over the calf. This shows that we should not follow or worship things made by hands.
5. Label the left side: Above the calf, write: "False Gold." This helps us remember it was a fake god.
6. Prepare the heart: Take your yellow or gold heart. If it is not cut out yet, use your scissors to cut along the lines carefully.
7. Glue the heart: Put glue on the back of the gold heart. Stick it in the center of the right side of your paper.
8. Put God in the center: Inside the gold heart, write the word "GOD" in very large, bold letters. This is the most important part of the craft!
9. Add the things you love: Around the gold heart, draw or write things you care about, like Family, Friends, or Pets. Keep them outside the heart to show God is number one.
10. Decorate and share: Use markers to add stars or designs to your page. Close your "book" and decorate the front cover with your name!
